Stockport Pride - Case Study
Since 2017, Stockport Pride has brought the community together in celebrating and promoting equality, inclusion, and LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer) rights in one of the biggest events of the year. It is organised with local organisations, including Stockport LGBT+ Plus and Stockport Forward LGBT+, ran by volunteers and attended by people across the borough.
Stockport Pride were awarded £1,973 of the SKylight Community Fund to support their 2022 event. This included publicity, volunteer resources, and the delivery of basic First Aid Training by St John’s Ambulance. Performers for the event included Rowetta (Happy Mondays) and Nathaniel J Hall (‘It’s a Sin’ - BBC).
Catering to Stockport’s diverse community, Stockport LGBT+ PLUS Spectrum also ran a quiet space, while Proud 2 b Parents hosted a family space. There were an additional 42 non-profit organisations promoting their services.
The celebration was a huge success with around 2000 people attending and 750 members taking part in the parade: an all-time high!
Stockport Pride will be taking place this year on 30th July 2023.
