SKylight to receive funding under Stockport Town of Culture programme
SKylight, part of Stockport Homes Group is thrilled to announce that it will receive a total of £5,000 funding from Stockport Council, under the borough-wide Town of Culture programme.
The funding will be used to fund a free 9-week programme for young people aged 14-18 from across Stockport with a passion for art and design. The programme has been designed and will be facilitated by Easy Peel Studios in their Merseyway Workshop in Stockport Town Centre.
The young people will learn and develop artistic processes such as woodwork, ceramics, and printmaking, producing a final piece linked to Town of Culture which will be exhibited in an exhibition at the Merseyway Workshop and included in the Town of Culture showcase in March 2024.
The programme will begin at the end of October, running until December; each week will involve a 2-hour after school session with specialist artists and makers.
Roger Phillips, Chair of SKylight, said:
“We’re thrilled to have been awarded funding as part of the Stockport Town of Culture, this money is going to create exciting opportunities for young people in Stockport. I can’t wait to see all the amazing art they are going to create.”

Stockport has been named Greater Manchester’s Town of Culture until March 2024, following in the footsteps of Bury and Stalybridge respectively. Stockport’s Town of Culture programme has been supported with funding from Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
There are four arms to the Town of Culture programme: Stockport Makes, Stockport Moves, Stockport Sounds and Stockport Tastes. Together, they ensure that the borough is celebrating all corners of the cultural landscape.
Developed in partnership with residents and businesses from across the borough, the Town of Culture programme aims to bring people together to celebrate Stockport’s rich cultural scene.
