Siraje's Employment Success Story
Siraje came to the UK as part of a re-settlement scheme from Ethiopia. Initially he was referred to our Employment Team in 2018 to look for a work placement. His Employment Coach worked closely with him to understand his background, get to know him and explore his immediate and long-term goals.
“In Ethiopia, I was working towards a maths degree and wanted to see whether I could continue my studies here. My English language was quite strong, but I wanted to improve my written English. The Employment Coach encouraged me to undertake an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course. However, I couldn’t help but want to achieve a degree, so I also made the decision to continue my maths degree. “
Inspired by his passion for nursing his Employment Coach supported him to change his degree to nursing.
With this big decision made he was sponsored by us to take the next step in his journey by completing IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
His Coach supported him every step of the way, matching the commitment of Siraje as he worked part time as a medical receptionist, completed his studies and volunteered. His Employment Coach contacted the universities to identify the right option and he was supported by the college to make the application.
Siraje said: “I’ve enjoyed the course and I am proud of the work I have done and the dedication I have shown to get this far.
I am currently doing a placement on the renal unit as part of my studies, I am so happy I followed my dream of nursing”
