SAZ Media: Empowering Young People through Digital Creativity

SAZ Media's project was designed to provide digital media training and a platform for self-expression to young people, particularly those who are underrepresented, have additional needs, or are in care.

Project Delivery

With the support of the SKylight Community Fund, SAZ Media successfully ran five photography and filming sessions in five different areas of Stockport, reaching a total of 87 young participants. Each session was rooted in youth-led exploration, allowing participants to take control of the creative process.

Impact on Young People

Participants were given cameras and accessories to explore different elements of photography. This hands-on experience helped them develop digital skills that could lead to future educational or career opportunities in media, technology, and creative industries.

The sessions encouraged young people to appreciate their local environments, giving them a sense of pride and possibility within their own communities. Group discussions and activities also allowed them to build positive friendships.

Many of the areas targeted by the project face high levels of digital exclusion. Providing access to digital equipment and training meant the sessions opened new doors for young people who might otherwise be left behind in the digital world.

Why This Matters

As the cost of living continues to rise, access to creative and digital tools becomes increasingly limited for many families. This initiative not only provided access but also inspiration, demonstrating the value and potential of creative careers to those who might never have considered them.

The community was left with a lasting reminder of what young people can achieve when given the opportunity and support. SAZ Media delivered a powerful and inclusive project that made an impact on young people in Stockport.

By combining creativity, collaboration, and community engagement, the project offered an innovative approach to youth development in a digitally evolving world.
