Bracondale Practice Health Champions
In 2017, Bracondale Surgery was one of three GP surgeries in Stockport collaborating with Altogether Better and Stockport Council to recruit volunteer Practice Champions to bring communities together to enjoy social activities based on shared interests while combatting social isolation and reducing GP visits.
Since it’s inception in 2018, the drama group has delivered improvised drama in a fun and structured way to help build strong and supportive relationships and support positive mental health.
In 2023, the SKylight Community Fund awarded £1,975 to Bracondale Practice Health Champions to continue their work combining healthcare and the arts, supporting funds for room hire, public liability insurance and publicity.
Within 12 months, 22 people benefitted from these sessions with ages ranging from 24 – 87 years old.
When asked “How does Drama for Fun improve your life?”, this is what they said:
- 10 people felt less lonely and built friendships and connections with others in the group.
- 8 people felt they had improved mental health, helped with depression and felt more supported when caring for a family member with mental health issues.
- 5 people felt they had improved confidence, and mental stimulation and built new skills.
- 2 people felt they had a much-needed break from caring responsibilities
